The first case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) infection in the United States was reported this month in the state of Indiana.
As a result of this event and the rise in the number of MERS cases globally, this week the U.S. Centers for Disease Control issued a Health Alert for doctors and others to increase their level of suspicion and consider MERS infection in travelers from the Arabian Peninsula and neighboring countries.
